NEWS FROM A PROUD MOMMA

Madeline, Nicklaus and Grace getting ready for Christmas

Greetings from the Dierkings! It has been a while and I thought it was about time to update everyone on our growth. We have been a busy family. I have been doing my best to get the kids on a schedule, manage the house, and start working a little from the home. It sounds like a load but I really am enjoying all of it. On December 1st the kids were five months old. Time has flown by. I remember thinking about Christmas and the holiday season and here it is right at our door step. I thought I might go through each child and give you an update and then tell you about a day in the life of a Dierking triplet.

Madeline is the oldest so let's start with her. Maddie, as we like to call her, is weighing in at eleven pounds fourteen ounces. She loves to smile and is a very good baby. Maddie also has a strong personality but is a little quiet about it. I think she has the personality of the older child but we will have to see. My little smilely girl loves to roll from front to back but when she gets to her tummy she gets really mad. She loves to look at lights and likes to hold things in her hand. I think my biggest fear with Maddie is she loves the T.V. Iknow it is only the glow but still she already has that glazed look.

Grace is next. Gracie, or fuzz, (her hair) is a baby with lots of surprises. Grace loves to roll over on to her tummy but she also can get back on her back. When she is on her tummy she holds her head up so high, better than her brother and sister, and keeps it that way for a good long time. The funny thing about Grace is she was the last baby to roll at all, then all of the sudden she was everywhere on the ground. I thing she will be the first to crawl, walk and run. I will get my exercise with Grace. Grace is the only baby that has dipples but to see them you have to be someone special. She only smiles for a select few, she is very choosy about who is holding her. I think Gracie is a thinker, her mind seems to be going all the time. Grace weighs in at ten pounds, 14 ounces.

Then there is the "Dude". Nicklaus who we lovingly call Bubba, Bubba-Lou, or Sir Chunks-a-lot is the biggest of all three. He is weighing in at thirteen pounds. That is about two pounds more than Grace. When they are side by side on the mat there is a big difference. Nicklaus does not like to roll around as much as the girls but he can do it. He is the most content baby. In the beginning of our home life Nicklaus was the hardest baby to please, now he is a gem. He will just lay on the floor and talk to you or smile at you. He is a real Mammas boy. He also looks just like Steve. Another nickname we have given him is Mini-me. Whenever someone sees Nicklaus they say, "There is no doubt that Steve is his father." I think they also have similar personalities but again we will see. Nicklaus also has a smile that just melts my heart. Come to think of it,all three have smiles I just love!

People are always asking about our schedule and what we do all day. Well, our first feeding begins at 9:00am. The babies eat every four hours so the schedule is 9-1-5. We are all up at about 8:00am and play in the nusery for about an hour. At 9:00am we start our feed and then play for a half hour. Next is bath time. I love this time and the kids seem to enjoy it too. When we are all done I put on some music and we begin to relax and prepare for our morning naps. The kids usually go down about 10:30am and sleep until 12:00pm. When they get up we bring them downstairs and we play on our mats. There are toys and "tummy-time" for about an hour and then it is time to eat again. After our 1:00pm feeding we play some more and it is off to bed for an afternoon nap. This is the one thing we have not mastered. I would love for the kids to sleep for two hours but we are lucky to get in one. When they wake up we are back to playing on the ground and then get ready for a 5:00pm feeding. This is the tough stretch. We try and not get any naps in between this feeding, because after the 9:00pm feed we are up to bed for the night. The kids are actually sleeping until 2:00am- 3:00am in the morning but I would love for them to get to 4:00am. Everything runs pretty smooth but we are not perfect, there are the bad days. We also have grocery shopping, Costco, Walmart and picking up our cousins that add to our week of things to do.

Oh and I cannot forget our trips to Disneyland. Try and picture this in your mind. We have one double stroller, one single stroller, Grandma Alma in her wheel chair and Grandma and Grandpa Kammer, Jeni, Breanna, Hannah, Rachel, Steve, the babies and myself. We can fill up a whole tram with our group. It has been lots of fun, especially when Steve takes off work and comes with us. We laugh when we hear all the whispers....."Are those triplets?, Look at them, do they have three?" We hear it all and it is so fun. We brought the kids on their first ride, it was "It's a Small World." We were all on the boat, even Grandma Alma who rides in her wheelchair like a queen. We also had our first sleep-over. When the fires happened the smoke was a little much for the triplets. We called Dave and Beth ( our brother and sister in-law) and asked if we could come down and spend the night to get away from the smoke. The kids love being with Aunt Beth and Uncle Dave, not to mention their three kids. Lastly, Steve's parents seem to make it up every Sunday to spend the day with their newest grandkids. We always have a nice day together. Margot always brings lots of goodies and a yummy meal for us to enjoy. We, Steve and I, truly feel blessed this holiday season. We know that we have our children to be thankful for but when it comes to Christmas we are so thankful to God for sending his Son. I hope you all find something to bless you. I hope that the Lord blesses you this holiday season with something very special. We are celebrating this weekend with the dedication of the babies at our church. We have asked Andy, Renee, Brian and Becky to be our God-parents. Truthfully I know that in some ways all of you that have kept our children in you prayers and in little ways are "God-parents", thank you for all that you have done to support us. The Dierkings are blessed, over and over again! Merry Christmas to everyone!

SO MUCH TO BE THANKFUL FOR

Hi all, well I missed updating a message at Thanksgiving, but that's not because we aren't thankful, it's because we were so busy. Have you ever wondered how your life has gotten so busy? Sharon and my life sure has. If my memory serves me correctly, our lives were much less hectic in those early days of our marriage. I remember that first Christmas in our apartment. We created a fake fireplace out of brick pattern corrogated paper and decorated around the apartment with a few decorations. The tree was floor to ceiling, and gifts filled the area around the tree, even though there were only two of us. I seem to remember getting a bowling ball from Sharon. We had little and enjoyed much. Our apartment cost us $125 a month plus utilities. I only earned $500 a month. Sharon began working for the County in the Assessor's office, and between us we had more than enough to get by. We purchased a new car that year on Dec 31, what a way to end up our first holiday season together. 1964 was certainly a memorable year.

This year we again attended church on Wednesday for the annual Thanksgiving Eve service. This is always one of our favorite services of the year, and this year was not different. Christy publically gave thanks to all who had a part in the triplets lives, either by praying, coming to visit in the hospiptal or helping out with caring for them at the house. She had everyone involved stand, and in the end nearly the entire congregation was standing. Quite an example of how we as Christians are to help each other.

Like in past years, we start getting ready for Christmas even before Thanksgiving. A few decorations were already in place in our house when people arrived for the Thanksgiving festivities. As the family patriarch I was asked to offer the prayer for the Thanksgiving meal. As I gathered my thoughts I realized that if I took time to itemize the thanks to God for everything he has provided, just this past year, we would have ended up eating a cold meal, so I summed it up by thanking him for being the caring, giving and loving God he is. God has provided so much to us all, and all he asks in return is for us to love him. During the year we had tracked down Sharon's aunt who we haven't seen for years and brought her over to the house to have Thanksgiving with us. It was special to see her, and a I'm certain that she enjoyed seeing everyone.

So now for a grandkids update. The triplets continue to grow and grow. They are all rolling over, but only from their backs to their stomachs. Then they get frustrated because they can't turn back, however, I suspect it won't be long before that changes and they roll all over the place. Grace seems to have the best eye-hand coordination at the moment, but as we have seen during the past few months, where one baby is momentarily ahead, another one takes over and moves ahead of their siblings. They take turns excelling and then falling back a little to let brother or sister have a turn in the spotlight. All three have colds, welcome to the real world. Maybe in their lifetime the cure for the common cold will be found. Nicklaus continues to lead in the "I am the hunk" contest, although Madeline is close behind. Nicklaus is also the easiest going at the moment. He just lays back and takes it all in - except when it is time to eat. Then he displays a little lack of patience. Madeline and Grace are the talkers, guess that is not a surprise, they are girls after all. In the past I have not taken much space to feature our other grandkids, so here is a short update on what they are doing. Rachel, Hannah and Breanna are just growing up way too fast. We are so fortunate to be able to see them at least once a week. We see Hannah and Rachel on Sunday at church, and occasionally after church for lunch at a local restaurant, and Breanna on Monday afternoons and nights when the entire family gets together at grandma's house for dinner. The girls love to play school together, with the two older ones, Breanna and Hannah taking turns to be the teacher. Rachel accepts her role as the student, but occasionally rejects the teacher's requests. Excitement is starting to show as Christmas is approaching, although we have not seen a list for Santa yet, maybe tonight. Breanna plays soccer on the weekends. She is quite athletic, so soccer is a good release for some of her excess energy. She recently took a tour of Orange Lutheran High School where she is planning to attend. That really makes me feel old. I still remember taking her to work when she was only a couple of months old, and showing her off. Now she is ready for High School. Hannah continues to amaze with her high IQ, sometimes a little too smart for her own good. Rachel is the loving child. She gives much love, but also needs much love, and gets frustrated when she feels that she isn't loved (which of course is never).

Well, there you have it. That's the quick version. There is more to tell, but you will fall asleep if I go on. Next time some current pictures, and it won't be another month, so check back. Grandpa Bernie

OUR FIRST HALLOWEEN

Hi everyone. Our mom made us get into these costumes and then we didn't even get to go out and get some treats. Mom said it was something about us having a cold, but we think that she just didn't want us to get a sugar high this early in our lives. You can see from the photo that we were not particularly happy with the fact that we were not going to be able to go Trick or Treating. Call mom and tell her she needs to let us go next year!!! By the way, in case you can't tell, Nicklaus is on the left, Madeline is in the middle, and I'm on the right. Grace.

GROWING, GROWING, GROWING

Nicklaus at 3 Days and 15 Weeks old

Madeline at 3 Days and 15 Weeks Old

Grace at 3 Days and 15 Weeks Old
Hi all. I can't believe how the time is flying by. It's been almost a month since my last post. I was out of the country for a couple of weeks, and when I returned home I was surprised how much the kids had grown, especially Nicklaus who is NOT missing out on any meals. All three have started to have "goo-goo" talk conversations with those who are holding them. Grace and I have certainly had some real long Grandpa to Granddaughter talks, although neither of us really knows what the other is saying. Madeline continues to be the easy go lucky baby, smiling a lot, in fact all one has to do is talk to her and she smiles. Madeline's trademarks continue to be her burps and "putters" when she eats. Last Sunday their mom and dad took them to church, and of course right during the quiet prayer time Madie let go with a loud burp, bringing quite a few chuckles. Nicklaus is staying true to form in that he doesn't have any patience, and loves to cuddle. I think Nicklaus would be completely happy if he was able to cuddle all day long, in between feedings of course. Gracie has made strides in trying to catch up with her siblings. She is eating the most at the moment, and as a result her little cheeks are starting to fill up. I have attached some comparison photos for you so that those of you who don't have a chance to see them can see for yourself how they have grown. I hope to have some new pictures with them in their Halloween costumes within a few days - I promise, so check back. God Bless, Bernd

FEATURING ALL THE GRANDKIDS

I can't tell which one this is, but it is a cute picture.

Hi all,I can't believe how fast the days go by. Gosh it's been almost 2 weeks since my last posting. To bring you up to date. The triplets are all GGGRRROOOOWWWWWIINNGG. The unofficial weigh in at our house last night produced two over 9 pounds and the third close behind. In looking at their eating charts I saw that they are eating almost double the amount they were eating when they came home from the NICU. You will see fat little cheecks in the pictures I have posted up. They all had their eyes examined last week, and all are doing fine. Nicklaus is a little far sighted, but not enough to be concerned about, and little Gracie showed them all up by having the best eyesight of the three. We just marvel at the babies progress and how well mom, dad, and Nanny Jenni are holding up. Well, I don't want to take up much space or time, so here are the latest pictures, taken Sept 29.

WE ARE 11 WEEKS OLD THIS TUESDAY

Hi everyone, Christy sent out the following e-mail, which I am posting up for those of you not on her distribution list. I just want to add, that while Christy says the triplets have changed Steve's and her lives, the babies have changed everyone's lives they are in contact with. Sharon and I just wonder at their little lives. They are growing so fast. They can hold their heads up pretty well, and love to look around at all the things there are to see. I have noticed that when I walk in and say something, they look in my direction. No more just bobbing our heads around, now it's looking at what we want to see. We are blessed as we live close by so we can help fill in those times when help is needed, and while we do get tired, we love the opportunity to be with those three little gifts from God. I must admit that before the babies came home I never dreamed that they would need as much attention as they do. It takes at least two adults present with them at all times. Thank goodness for all of you who have been able to help, it has helped all of us keep our sanity. So here is the note from Christy. Check back in a day or two for some new photos. Grandpa Bernie

Hello Everyone, It has been one wild ride these past few weeks. Right now I am currently up at 12:00am and trying to stay awake for the next 24 hours. Jeni is here with me tonight (our nanny) and she is more awake than I. Steve and I have definitely had a serious life change. I LOVE IT! More than anything it is the greatest feeling to have these babies as a part of our lives. We went for the triplets first shots last week. That is terrible to watch. It goes very fast but the babies are screaming the entire time. As soon as it was over they all fell asleep as fast as the shots happened. We only had a few nights where I think that it bothered them.Everyone is growing in their own special way. Nicklaus still takes the "Gold" in weight. He was 7lbs and 2oz. Madeline is the "Silver" medalist with 7lbs.and 1oz. Grace is not far behind taking the "Bronze" at 6lbs. 7oz. All the kids eat about every 2-4 hours during the day and if we are lucky they sleep about 4 hours at night. I say if we are lucky because little Nicklaus does not want to miss anything and chooses to wake up every 3 hours during the night. We have a special time during the day, it is called "Tummy Time." Babies today are told to sleep on their backs so during the day you put them on their tummies to build strength. We do this about 2-3 times a day and for about 10- 15 minutes or until someone cries and gets upset. This exercise increases their shoulder strength and helps them with their head movements. Each child does something a little better than the other but all are making progress. It is amazing the changes that are made from day to day.Again I would love to thank all of you who have given of your time and helped with the babies. Some of you have come over during the day and been a cuddler. That is so nice because we can get something done around the house or take a nap or shower. Some of you have jumped into an all-night shift. We really appreciate those of you because we can split the night and not be up 24/7. I know that lots of you are still lifting us up in prayer and we still need it. There is so much adjusting and new developments that God is our only answer to get through each day.Lastly if I could ask all of you prayer warriors for a favor. I have two requests that do not involve my family but definitely need prayer. We have a neighbor that has had a transplant and needs some prayer and healing. ( I did not ask permission to write this so I will not use his name but God knows.) There is also a friend at church who just had a baby (early) and needs prayer too! If you could just take five minutes to lift them up I would really appreciate it, thank you. I have loved the cards and gifts and phone calls. KEEP THEM COMING! Gods blessing to everyone! Christy

TWO MONTHS OLD AND GROWING

Wow, have the past two months gone by fast. It seems like just yesterday when we were all sitting in Christy's Hospital labor and delivery room, waiting for the doctors to confirm that the babies would come into the world that evening, July 1, 2008. The next days and weeks were certainly stressful as we made daily trips to the NICU to provide support and prayers to Steve, Christy and the babies. Little Gracie certainly had us holding our breath more than once. Finally the day came when we got news that Madeline and Nicklaus were going home.
Those first moments at home provided a new scare to Christy and Steve as Madeline forgot about breathing while she was being fed. Just before mom and dad were going to call 911, Madeline remembered about breathing, and all was well. The next two days were tough on all of us, as one of the babies was left behind. Christy spent the afternoons with Grace while Sharon and I went there in the evening to feed and hold Grace, all in an effort to let her know that she was not forgotten. We were all elated when Gracie came home in two days, and all were together again. Since then all of our lives have been turned totally upside down. Just try to imagine everything that is required to change diapers, feed, and hold each baby about every three hours, 7 X 24. It is a lot of work, but so worth it as tending to the babies is also a lot of fun. We are all very thankful for everyone who has responded to the calls for help to take on a shift or two helping out. The next few months will require at least two persons being there to help with the babies 7 X 24. Even though Christy and Steve have taken in a live-in nanny (thanks Jenny), they still need volunteers to help out so that Jenny, Christy and Steve can get some sleep. If you have not helped out and want a wonderful experience, one you will not soon forget, give Christy a call. If you have already helped you know what a rewarding experience that is, and if you can help again, please call.
The babies all have different personalities, and it is so interesting to watch them as they learn and grow. The babies were cribbed together in the NICU, but cribbing them together at home is strictly forbidden, as they might roll over on each other and accidentally sufficate their brother or sister. So they have been cribbed alone. A week or so ago Christy decided to place them back together, side by side, in one of the cribs. The babies were so excited to be back together. Their little arms and legs were waving around in excitement as they looked at and tried to touch each other. I must admit that I was very surprised that the babies obviously knew each other, and were happy to be together again. We now try to lay them on the floor together at least one time a day so that they can experience togetherness. I have attached a few pictures for you so you can see how the little angels look today. God Bless, keep praying, thanking God for his blessings and praying for continued good health for all. Bernd

WE ARE FAMILY

Hi everyone. Here is another post from Christy. I just want to add that having the new grandkids home is very rewarding. I really enjoy watching them and seeing their personalities continue to develop, not change, just develop more. Gracie continues to be the cautious and strong willed one, Maddie is still the laid back - "I'm happy with whatever" one, and Nick is the particular one (needs to always have a clean diaper) and needing human touch baby. These are character traits that were for the most part recongnized by Christy while the babies were still in the womb, and were definitiely noticeable those first weeks in the NICU. Each one needs to be treated and handled differently. They are learning things so fast. For instsance, all of them know that when we put a little bib on, the next thing will be a bottle with formula. It's really fun to watch them, even when we have the all night shift. So here is the note from Christy. Bernd

REJOICE IN THE LORD ALWAYS AND AGAIN I SAY REJOICE!!!!!!It has been one terrific week! Grace is home and all is well with the Dierkings. Grace arrived last Thursday and we have been going one hundred miles an hour since. It is a lot of hard work and worth every minute. I must admit leaving the hospital was hard. Our babies primary nurse and two of my favorite L&D nurses walked Steve, Grace and I out for the last time. We got in the car and I just started crying. The tears were happy tears and sad. I will really miss the staff at UCI and all the new friends I have made. Steve and I are so grateful to them. The kids are doing fine. There is a lot of adjusting to do and we have had many sleepless nights. My Mom and Dad are helping out everyday and we have had many of you, friends and family come and give a helping hand.I wanted to share something very important to me. There is no way that we could have these beautiful children home safe if it were not for the prayers and support from each of you. I am sure we have put a smile on the Lords face with the way we have come together to believe in the miracle of Madeline, Grace and Nicklaus.

I know that God has a special plan for my children and I am so excited to see what that will be. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, you are all amazing!Today we went to our new doctor. What a trip that is. My Mom and I spent forty-five minutes getting the car ready and then loading up the kids. When we get to the office we have to undress one child and get him or her weighed and examined and then get the next one ready for the same check-up. Of course it is always a feeding time for someone, so my Mom will feed someone and I will get the kids ready. It is a three-ring circus, but we both think it is so fun. The final score today is; Nicklaus is the heaviest at 6lbs. 5oz, Madeline is a close second at 6lbs. 4oz, and little Gracie girl is 5lbs. 12oz. They are all gaining weight and the doctor is amazed at the awareness of the kids.

The last exciting news is that we have hired a live-in nanny. After a few days of sleeplessness we knew that we needed some help. It has become clear to us that you need at least two people at all times with the babies and actually three is better. Jeni is moving in this weekend and we have known her for years. She is a member of our church and was looking for something just like this. Isn't the Lord good? Just when you are not sure how things will work out God provides. Please do not think we do not need help we can use all we can get.

Another bit of news is that I will be working out of the house on Saturdays. In order to have a nanny I just need to give a couple of hours a week to the trade I love. I am very excited to see some of you that I have not connected with and I am anxious to get my hands into your hair.(hee hee)Lastly I ask that you take a few seconds to think about all the blessing you have in your life. After you think about them, thank God for them, He is our true provider our Lord is good, AMEN! God bless you all, Christy

BACK TOGETHER AGAIN

Well. apologies from me are in order. So much has happened in the last few days, and I have failed to keep you posted. My last post was when Nicklaus and Madeline came home. Sadly we had to leave Grace in the hospital, but Christy spent her daytime there, and Sharon and I went at night to hold Grace and feed her. All of this was to keep little Grace from having separation anxiety. At this point I should mention that Madeline and Nicklaus had a pretty sleepless night at home that first night. This was the first time in a long time they were sleeping by themselves, as they had been cribbed together at the NICU for nearly a month. Thursday we got word that Grace was also being released to mom and dad at home, joy was in the air. Now all three were back together again, even though they are not sleeping together, they are in the same room. After being home for a day Christy decided to place them all into one bed, side by side, like they had been in the NICU. The obvious excitement the babies exhibited was amazing. Their arms waved around uncontrollably and their little feet were all over the place. They tried to touch each other and even squealed a bit. I was totally amazed at the fact that they obviously recognized each other and were ahppy to be able to touch each other again. Actually, that is not entirely true. In the NICU Grace was always in the middle (she was Baby B - the second born), and in that position had the most contact with her brother and sister. Nicklaus was on the right, so only had physical contact with Grace. When Christy placed them in the crib together at home, she put Nicklaus in the middle, and he did NOT like it. He was not at all pleased with his little sisters touching him, and let them and us know how unhappy he was.

Taking care of the babies around the clock has become quite a chore. We are so fortunate to have a great family and group of friends willing to come and spend the nights taking care of the babies, so that Christy and Steve can get some sleep. It is basically a non-stop job, as there are two of us needed to be on duty to take care of the three angels at any one time. There is waking the babes up, changing their diapers, getting the food ready and feeding them their formula, burping them, holding them for a bit, then laying them down and starting on the next baby. By the time one gets done you just barely have time for a catnap and then the routine starts over again, but I must admit I love doing it and being there to take care of the babies. God has blessed Sharon and I so much. Next time will get you some new pictures. Check back in a couple of days. Bernd

MADELINE AND NICKLAUS COME HOME

Hi all, I am attaching a post from Christy, but first a few words from me. You will see that two of the three grandbabies have joined mom and dad at home. This means changes (not just diapers), and new experiences for all of us. Gracie is still in UCI Hosp NICU, so we are all taking turns to visit her and make sure that she doesn't feel left out. I was there late last night in time to give her a feeding. She is quite a handful. She tires out easily during the feedings, and will simply jam her gums down so you can't get the bottle nipple into her mouth. Last night she started playing "possum". While I was gently trying to get that nipple past her sealed gums, she closed her eyes as if asleep. I guess she figures that if she can't see me then I must have gone away. Too bad Gracie, Grandpa was still there. She actually opened her eyes, then when she saw me and felt me still trying to get that nipple in, she closed her eyes. I kept trying, but Gracie won out. I eventually relented the task to her night nurse Sheryll, who was successful. Bottom line, Gracie got her entire feed through a bottle. All her nurses are doing their best to get her to take all her formula without the use of the feeding tube, and as soon as they are confortable that she can do this day after day, Gracie will join her sister and brother at home. So here is the post from Christy.

Well, I do not know if you all will believe me but I am sitting on the computer, kids are sleeping in their cribs, dishes are done and house looks pretty good. We have had a busy couple of days. Steve and I brought home Madeline and Nicklaus on Monday evening. We were both so excited to get them home, but very sad to leave our little Gracie. She is doing great she just gets so tired during her feeds that she needs a little more love in the NICU. It must be that she loves her nurses, especially Sally and Sheryl. As you can imagine things are slightly crazy. My Mom stayed the night with us the first night and we did not sleep but five minutes here and there. Madeline has a very odd breathing pattern and to be honest it is sometimes scary. Nicklaus just loves to look at the world and never wants to sleep. Thank goodness that is changing. We bathed them last night and I think that it wore them both out. My Mom and Dad both stayed last night and I was able to get six hours of sleep. I cannot say that my Mom has had that but I woke up early this morning and sent her to bed. Today we meet our Pediatrician for the first time. I am excited to see if the kids have gained any weight??? Then we will go visit Grace and back home for the night. Please pray that the kids continue to eat well and that Grace will be home with us soon. It is very hard to have a split family. I went to visit her yesterday and then Steve went after work to give her quality Daddy time. She is in great spirits but we want her home. Many of you have offered help. I thank you and yes I could use it. It would be helpful to me that if you call you tell me when you can do it. I am drawing up a calendar and scheduling people in. If you feel like you are a night owl and can handle a shift that would be great. My parents are here helping but I need to give them a break too. Day-time cuddlers are needed too. Thank you to everyone for everything. Steve and I realize that we could not do this alone and all the support has been so great. Christy

SOMEONE IS GETTING READY TO MOVE OUT

Hi all, aren't these pictures great. They were taken by Christy's friend Rebecca, quite an accomplished photographer. Any of you who would have need of a photographer should consider using her. She also has a web site, and if you go there you can see all of the baby picture proofs. The site address is: http://beccalynne.smugmug.com/client%20proofs/500974/
So now for some baby news. As the headline for this post says, someone is getting ready to move out, and that someone is not Madeline, who seemed to be in front most of their first month, but is Nicklaus. He is bottle feeding the best of the three, and as of today is taking all of his formula by bottle. He has also passed his car seat test--he had to sit in it for one hour without any problems. Madeline has several bottle feedings a day, but is not quite ready to take all of her formula by bottle. She is due for har car seat test any time.
Grace could probably take all of her food via bottle if she wanted to, but she doesn't want to, and if you have been following these blog posts, you know that she has a mind of her own, even at the tender age of 1 month, actually to be technical, she and her siblings are at minus 16 days. Their original birthdate (full term) would have been August 24, the same as Grandma Sharon. Well, getting back to Nicklaus. We got word today that in all probability Nicklaus will be coming home on Monday, Aug 11. Life for mom and dad is about to get very interesting, to say the least. Well, that's all for tonight folks. Check back in the next day or two as Rebecca is going to post a short video on this blog. God Bless, Bernd

TAKE A LOOK WE ARE 5 WEEKS OLD

Nicklaus says "what am I doing here among all these girls?"
Dad holding Madeline after her bath, doesn't she look contented?
Grace loving being held by her mom, also after her bath.
Mom holding Nicklaus, who is saying please don't squeeze to hard, I like to upchuck.
Proud parents holding their family, and Nicklaus is thinking "do I get fed Now?"

GETTING READY TO COME HOME

Hi all. I have a couple of great photos to post up, but you will have to wait til later today. In the meantime, here is a post from Christy. BErnd

Hi Everybody! It is good to be in this place. It was only five weeks ago that Madeline, Grace and Nicklaus entered this world. My how time has flown by. Steve and I have been very busy, as you can imagine, getting things ready. (So have my parents) Everyday is eventful. Steve leaves for work about 6:30am every morning and then meets me at the hospital every night. It is a very long day for him but it is all worth it when he sees the kids. By the way, we did the math on how long he has been driving to UCI and believe it or not it has been over one hundred days. I think my parents are right behind him with at least ninety days. Both sets of parents have been a huge support to us. Speaking of which, so have many of you. We love the cards of encouragement we have been getting. My days are filled as well. I have been spending some time in the morning doing loads of new clothes (for the babies), towels and burp clothes. I am also doing a few hairdos to keep myself updated. Then it is off to the NICU where I help with the diaper changing, bathing and feeding. Steve comes around 4:30pm and we stay until we are kicked out at 6:30pm. We then come home and try and do a few things to prepare for the babies and have some nicely cooked meals. (Some from my Mom and some from me)Today was a big day. We have known that we are getting close but today we had a little bit of a shocker. Nicklaus, to our surprise, is bottle feeding great. He is about ready to bottle feed every time and when this happens, he is coming home. I was thinking maybe sometime next week, but after talking with the doctor today she feels he could be home as soon as Saturday of this week. Steve and I are thinking maybe Sunday or Monday sounds more like it. Nicklaus is the true judge, when he is ready he will be home. Madeline is about one day behind him. So we just need to light a fire under Gracie to catch her up. ( she is not really that far behind) Grace is her own person for sure, if she feels like it she feeds great, if she is tired, forget it. We always have to get her at her best time. If you know me, then you know who she takes after. All in all, the kids are great. We are truly blessed and cannot wait to bring them home. Thank you again for the prayers. We cannot imagine all this without the support we have received. Also know that I think of all of you and pray for all of you too. I have some quiet moments when I am holding my little blessings and I just think of all the support and prayers we have received and try to pray for each of you. Hopefully the next update will clue you in on how it is at home with the babies. Christy

HAPPENINGS IN THE NICU

Hi all, the following was supplied by Nicklaus' dad Steve. Nicklaus apparently whispered these words to Steve last Friday night, so I thought they might be worthy of posting for everyone to read (I think Steve had a little too much juice of the grape to drink). Bernd

Today the NICU was extremely loud. All of my buddies around me had visitors. There must have been at least 10 people (including my mommy and daddy) walking around....that's not including all of the doctors and nurses. There is a baby that sleeps next to us, named Carlos, who is not doing so well. I said "Hi" to him the other day, but he just nodded back to me (whisper...I don't think that he can talk yet). He was a twin and is much much smaller than his brother. At 3:55 AM, when all of the nurses were on their breaks, my two sisters, myself, and 3 other babies(Carlos, Jennifer and Emma ) all met in the middle of the NICU. We discussed our futures in life. I told them how I want to be a baseball player for either the Angels or the Padres. Grace said that she wanted to be a politician and Madeline said that she wanted to be a medical doctor someday. Carlos didn't say much, but I know that he wants to be a fireman someday and Jennifer said that she wants to be a teacher. Emma ended the conversation by saying that she doesn't know what she wants to do in life, but as we all know, she has many years to figure it out. We all laughed, talked and played for about 20 minutes. The first nurseback into the NICU was Sam. We all scattered as fast as we could back to our cribs. I've never crawled so fast in my life. Madeline accidently...or at least I hope that it was accidental....stepped on my blanket as I was moving towards the crib. I fell on my side....gave her a dirty look....and then maintained my focus on the crib. I crawled back into the crib, gave her a pinch, and said, "That wasn't nice!". She just closed her eyes and continued to smile. There wasn't a sound that could be heard when we all climbed back into our cribs......Grace was exhausted though, as I could hear her breathing hard from her sprint back to the crib. I had a huge smile on my face as I fell to sleep that night. I got to thinking how fortunate we all are, as we have our whole lives ahead of us. It's wonderful to dream. Life is great! Nicklaus

THINGS ARE LOOKING GOOD

Grace, July 23, 2008
Madeline, July 23, 2008
Nicklaus, July 23, 2008
Hello Friends and Family. It seems like ages ago when I was writing my daily e-mails from my hospital room. If the babies were still in my tummy they would be 36 weeks today, actually in the NICU they still count them as 36-weekers. Steve and I were there today and the kids are doing so wonderful. Of course the big question is, when are they coming home? Well here is the answer I give. There are a few requirements, 1. They need to be breathing room air without any assistance. (they all do) 2. They need to hold their own body temperature. (they all do) 3. They need to use a bottle for feeding and gain weight. (well, we are all trying to do this one) All three are attempting a bottle at least once a day. Both of the girls are trying once a shift. It is hard to explain via e-mail but the babies were not old enough to learn the suckle part of their growing experience. Last week we really worked of using a pacifier to help them learn the sucking action of eating. With most babies this would come naturally and easy but with preemies this is a hard task. The babies will take a few sucks and then need to pause and take deep breathes. It is very different from just giving a bottle. Grace is doing well, when she wants too, Madeline is a little kick back with it and Nicklaus loves the bottle but his stomach cannot handle it. All of our kids are known as the throw-up kids but they are loved just the same. Besides being known for that, everyone (including other parents and grandparents) think our children are just beautiful. We agree completely. Lastly, Steve and I gave the kids their first real baths this weekend. They all seemed to love it! I loved the way they smelled, like a clean baby good enough to eat. (just kidding)Thank you for all the continued prayers. We hope the babies will be home with us soon (maybe two weeks) and then the craziness will begin. Gods Blessing to everyone! Christy and Steve

WE ARE THREE WEEKS OLD!!!!

Wow, I can't believe that it's been three weeks since we made our appearance in the world. We've had our ups and downs, mostly ups during that time, and as mom is finding out we can be quite a handful. Here you can see all three of us together in mom's arms. Madeline is on the left as you look at the photo, Gracie is in the middle and I (Nicklaus) am on the right. As you can see, I am the only one paying attention to what is going on. My sisters spend way too much time sleeping. I want to see what is going on in the NICU, and can't wait to get out of this place to see what else there is to see. I have been having a little problem keeping all my food down, but it's not me, I'm sure it is the yucky formula diet. Bring me some hamburgers and fries please!! My sister Madeline continues to be calm, cool and collected. She is the biggest, already over four pounds, but that's because she doesn't move around like me and Gracie. Gracie has recently decided to play catch-up, and she is eating more and gaining weight the fastest. All three of us are taking some food via a bottle, but that is sooooo much work and very tiring. Getting food via the feeding tube which has been inserted into our noses and goes all the way into our tummies is much easier. I keep hearing the nurses, mom and dad, as well as grandma and grandpa telling us that we need to work harder at suckling and getting more of our food from the bottle, but I really don't see the advantage. I do try to fake them out and act like I am going to suckle, but just play with the little nipple instead. Guess one of these days they will figure me out. Our mom comes every day and stays for 6-7 hours, spending most of the time cleaning our diapers. Dad also comes to see us after work, but he doesn't change diapers. Guess that will "change" in time, get it "change". Well, you are probably wondering when we will be coming home to our house in Fullerton. My best guess is that we will be here for another 2 or 3 weeks. We have to be able to take all our food from a bottle, be able to maintain our temperature (whatever that means), and some other stuff I really don't understand. I am actually looking forward to seeing my home, as I love to look around and take in all the sights and am sure that there will be lots of new things to see in our home. Everyone has a different opinion on who will get home first. Some people say Madeline because she has been the biggest ever since birth. My mom thinks it will be Gracie, as she is making rapid progress in the catch up game. I think it will be me. I just need to get over my tummy problems. Well that's it for me. Writing this has been as tiring as suckling, and phew I am soooo tired. Good night from all of us. Nicklaus.

BACK TOGETHER AGAIN

Today is July 15. We are 15 days old, and after two weeks of being separated due to being housed in individual isolets, we are finally back together again, all three sleeping in one crib. Grandma Sharon took this picture shortly after we were all fed, had our diapers changed, and as you can see, were all awake. Miss Madeline is on the left, Miss Grace in the middle cuddling up to her sister, and Master Nicklaus is on the right, preferring to not get involved in the "cuddling stuff". Madeline had her second feeding attempt from a little bottle today, and was pretty successful at downing about 15 milliliters, not a lot, but it is a start. Near the beginning of her bottle feeding effort she tried so hard to suckle and make her mom happy, that she forgot to breathe, setting off her respitory alarm, scaring her mom a bit, and reminding everyone how fragile we all are. Gracie continues to make progress, and although she is still the smallest, she is rapidly catching up, both in weight and alertness. Nicklaus continues to be the "spit-up" champ. Not exactly something to be proud of, but he figures that he needs to outdo his sisters in something, however, both Madeline and Grace keep trying to match Nicklaus' efforts. Fortunately all three of us are keeping sufficient formula down, and we have all gained weight and are now over our birth weights. If we could talk, we would all thank you for your prayers.
Since talking is still a while off, you will just have to believe that we thank you from the bottom of our hearts, we could not have done it without your prayers and God's loving spirit. Madeline, Grace and Nicklaus.

PROUD GRANDPARENTS

Today is July 13. The triplets are almost two weeks old and making good progress. They are all on room air, getting nourishment through feeding tubes inserted into their stomachs via the nose, and are getting to be on regular feeding and sleeping schedules. Little Gracie is finally without those troublesome I-V needles, and that has made her a happy baby. Nicklaus is still having some "spit-up" issues, but even that is getting better each day. He is the only one of the three not back up to their birth weight. Madeline continues to be the most "laid back". Gracie is the
feistiest, and Nicklaus seems to be the most alert, trying so hard to focus on things to be seen in the NICU. We got word today that all three might graduate to the the next room of the NICU, which is where the babies go before getting to come home. A very good sign that the medical staff feels the babies are making good progress medically. As you can see in the photos in this update, both the Dierking and the Kammer grandparents love to go to the NICU to hold the precious little additions to the families. The bottom photo shows Sharon and I, while the top photo shows Loren and Margot (Steve's parents). each GP proudly holding one of the precious three. Until next time, God Bless you all, and please keep Christy, Steve, Madeline, Grace and Nicklaus in your daily prayers. Bernd

EVERY DAY IS A NEW EXPERIENCE

Hi all. Today is July 9. A little more than one week since the babies birth, and what a week it has been. As we drive to the hospital each day there is a certain amount of wondering going on in our minds. Are the babies doing better than the previous day? Will something have happened to them healthwise? Or??? Christy's attitude is very positive, feeling that if she didn't hear anything from the NICU nurses or doctors, her babies must be doing well, and so far that has been the case. The babies have been making progress each day, to a point where yesterday they were all off their I-V's, and taking food through a little feeding tube inserted into their stomachs via the mouth. Nicklaus and Gracie suckle on their pacifiers while getting the liquid formula, so they are learning that when they suckle on a nipple they will get food in return. So far Maddie has been the lazy one. She has figured out that she food will come even if she doesn't suckle, so she doesn't, but then Maddie has been the laid back one all through the pregnancy. Gracie made the greatest improvement yesterday which made all of us (mom and dad and Sharon and I) very happy. She was taking food like a hungry trooper, and best of all there was no spit up afterward. Both Maddie and Nick have a little spit up going on after feeding. I am attaching Christy's e-mail note from yesterday for those of you who don't get her e-mail. Will try to get some new pictures tomorrow and post them up tomorrow night. Sharon and I have a doctor appointment this afternoon and may not get in to see the babies - I know I will be suffering from baby withdrawel. Til then, God Bless and please keep the prayers coming. BErnd

Hi everybody. This day (July 8) marks one week of our babies lives. So many things have happened in this last week. I will start with me. For some reason I have actually had a great recovery. I had the babies on Tuesday night and on Wednesday morning I was ready to take the IV out and have a shower. That is exactly what I did. Then it was off to the NICU to see my babies. I was wheeled down there but when I got there I walked around to look at all of the babies. Everyone could not believe that I had had major surgery just 14 hours before. I was not trying to be a hero I just felt great. I think my adrenaline was going crazy. As for my beautiful babies, they are beautiful. All three have had ups and downs. If there is one thing we have learned this week it is that everyday is a different day. Today, however, was the best day yet. When I walked in to the NICU I was told that both Nicklaus and Madeline were off their IV Nicklaus actually had his first bath and put a little onsie on. Steve fed Madeline for the first time, and all was good with the world. I am sure you are all waiting to hear about my little Gracie. She had a great day today! Gracie actually has been getting feedings just like her siblings. She is just a little farther behind. Today she hit her IV out (I told you all she was very strong willed) and they decided to keep it out. What that means is we are going to pray that her feedings get to be more and more and she will not need the IV Like I said everyday is a different day in the NICU, and we carefully approach each one. Thank you all for your constant prayers and support. Steve and I feel so loved with every e-mail and phone call. We are blessed one million times over. Christy

HAPPY JULY 4TH TO ALL

Hi all, here are the latest pictures of the three little Dierking angels, taken July4 day three of their lives. Grace (Gracie) Sharon Dierking

Madeline (Maddie) Margot Dierking
Madeline and Mom
Nicklaus Kammer Dierking (and Dad)

As you can see mom and dad are very proud of the additions to their family. I have attached a note from Christy which gives a good update on all that is happening.

Happy 4th of July everybody. Please take some time to thank the Lord for the freedom we have in our country, for the soldiers that fight for our freedom and for the amazing beauty we have been given in our country.

In other news, my babies are three days old. Everyone is doing well. Madeline, who came into the world first, is on room air and gets regular feedings. Nicklaus is also breathing , and is getting a tan under the lights because of some jaundice. He is a spitting image of his father. My little Gracie, she is struggling just a tad. Gracie is using extra help to breathe but is continuing to fight. I told all of you she is a fighter and the nurses agree. At one point she slapped the respitory therapists hand as he worked on her. (you go girl) Gracie is also going to need a "pick line" because they are running out of room to do an I.V. Please pray for her strength and that she is protected from infection.

I have plans to go home tomorrow (Saturday) and start getting back into some kind of home routine. To be honest I need some prayer myself. The emotional side is getting to me a little bit. I ask that you pray that I get my trust back. I have always trusted God that He would protect my children, in my womb and outside. My Mom reminded me today that she had to leave Brian ( my brother) at the hospital and she prayed to the Lord to take Brian and protect him. I have given my children to God and I need to prove to Him that I trust him. Thank you everyone for your continued prayers. I know that the success we have had so far is because we have all banded together and prayed.

The Lord is good! "Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul" Psalm 143:8 Christy

IT WAS A BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION

Hi all, just a couple of words and some pictures. Christy gave birth to her three little angels yesterday (July 1) evening at around 6:45PM. The procedure was pretty amazing and without any glitches as far as we know. Madeline came out first, she weighed 3 lbs 8 ounces and was 16 1/2 inches long. Gracie came out second. She made her appearance butt first, weighed 3 pounds 2 ounces and is 15 1/2 inches long. Nicklaus was last. He didn't want to come out. I think he liked the penthouse he had been living in for the past 32 weeks. He weighed 3 pounds 6 ounces and was 17 inches long. All three had great color and great voices, came out singing although not exactly opera. Well, rather than take up more space and time I am just going to attach a couple of photos for you. Am not sure who they are of, so rather than make a mistake, I will just leave them nameless. Those of you on the prayer chain please keep the prayers coming, escpially for the babies as they are in the ICU, and even though they have many dedicated nurses there to make sure they stay healthy and grow, they also need God's helping hand to get them through this phase of their new lives. Grandma Sharon and Grandpa Bernie

call, I did not get much sleep last night and I would like to rest a little
today. I would love for everyone to pray pray pray! (as if I need to
ask for this) We are very excited and will send out another e-mail
possibly tonight or tomorrow. Gods blessings, Christy

More as soon as I can get back to a computer.

ONE MORE WEEK

Hi all, tomorrow another week will have past by and the babies will have achieved 32 weeks of life in the womb. I am attaching a couple of recent ultrasound pictures for you to see, but I have to admit that they are not as exciting in this format as they are when seeing them on the monitors in Christy's room. We have many ultrasound photos, and I know which picture is of which baby when Christy tells me, but by the time I get home they are all mixed up in my mind, so you will have to bear with me and just accept the two I selected, but don't ask me who they are of. Perhaps Christy can add some names when she reads this. I think that you will clearly see a foot in one picture and can make out the head and body in the other.

Today we went to the hospital in the morning and treated Christy and her nurses to Belgium waffles, complete with strawberries and whipped cream. One of the nurses commented that they are going to miss all of these little special benefits when Christy goes home. I think the bonds developed between Christy and her nurses will make it difficult when the tinme comes for Chrsity and the babies to come home. I expect that the delievery room will be very crowded as every nurse has vowed to be there when Christy delivers. Everyone at the hosptial is so geared at getting healthy babies into this world. I am so amazed at their dedication. Sharon and I were given a tour of the NICU - the intensive care unit for the premies. The little ones are so dear. This tough old grandpa's heart just melted when I saw them. Another set of triplets, born last week at 30 weeks and 4 days was in the NICU. That gave us an idea of what to expect when our little three angels will appear. While the premies look so fragile, I can't wait to hold them and give them warmth and loves. I'm sure that Sharon feels the same. I watched while a nurse was teaching a little one to suckle. She did this by inserting a very small feeding tube through the center of a nipple, then as the baby suckled on the nipple, the nurse pushed a little lliquid food through the tube. It was truly amazing to watch.

The time is getting exciting now, as we probably only have a few days, maybe two weeks weeks maximum, before the Dierking triples make their grand appearance. What will they be like? Who will they look like? What will their personalities be like? Who will be the most active? Last Tuesday (6/23) the babies weights were as follows; Madeline and Nicklaus were both 3 pounds 5 ounces (1500 grams for our European friends), and Grace was 3 pounds even (1360 grams). Now with the scrumptious waffle breakfast they were also treated to this morning, they probably gained at least a few ounces today. Well, there you have it. Please keep praying and thanking God for all his blessings, and asking for the Holy Spirit's guidance and presence providing safety during the delivery and recovery afterward.

LATEST MESSAGE FROM CHRISTY

Can you believe it? If I have to be honest, time has flown by. I have been here at UCI for 62 days. Yesterday was a great day. My friend Rebecca was here all day and then my Mom, Dad and Steve were here towards the end of the day. Besides having nice guests, I had my growth ultrasound and was able to look at all the babies and get their new weights. Madeline is still our Baby "A" and weighs in at about three pounds five ounces. Nicklaus has met up with his sister and is currently tied at three pounds, five ounces. Our little Grace is still a little behind, but strong as can be. She weighs three pounds exactly. If you are doing your math I have about ten pounds of baby inside and when you add three placentas and three bags of amniotic fluid, I currently am like a mother at about 41 weeks. For those of you reading this a full term baby goes 40 weeks so I am currently overdue. Everyday is a little bit of a struggle to move, get up or lay down. If I am being honest, this pregnancy is not very difficult. The hardest part is leaving "my life outside the hospital" and living in a small room with slight freedoms. My husband and family have made this whole process a lot easier. Steve brings me my mail, special snacks, dinner and my scissors. ( Yes, I have trimmed a few bangs here at the hospital.) My Mom and Dad have also brought homemade dinners and we have played lots of games day after day. I also have loved the e-mails and cards from friends and family. Thank you too for the visits and phone calls. I am getting very anxious to meet my babies in person. Yesterday during the ultrasound we got a perfect picture of Maddie's face and she was beautiful. This Sunday marks 32 weeks, this was my goal in the very beginning. The doctors are still saying 34 weeks and I hope I do not disappoint. Any day would be great for me, but I know that the longer I go, the healthier the babies will be. I joke that I will be doing cartwheels down the hospital to get the babies out. The doctors response to that was, if you can do cartwheels you can go to 34 weeks. Thank you again for all the prayers. Steve and I are truly blessed to have the support we do. Christy

30 1/2 WEEKS AND COUNTING

Not exactly a romantic anniversary dinner, but certainly a memorable one. This photo is of Steve and Christy enjoying their 2nd Anniversary together in the University of Irvine Medical Center lunch area. Sharon prepared them a sumptious dinner of salad, Filet Mignon and dessert, complete with candlelight and two red roses. As you can see both had an enjoyable evening. Christy had a little problem scooting up to the table, as there was a large bulge keeping her from sitting up close, but that did not keep her from enjyoying the dinner, espcially the sugar free chocolate dessert.

The babies and mother continue to do fine. Christy's blood pressure is still a little high, and is being monitored closely by the medical staff. Her doctors keep telling her that they fully expect Christy to carry the babies til week 34, which as of today would be about another 3 1/2 weeks. I had hoped to be able to report on the babies weights, etc., but this more detailed exam and sonagram where the babies sizes are measured won't happen til next Wednesday. The estimates are that the babies are probably over 3 pounds each now, but apparently aren't quite ready to make their grand entrance into the world yet. Well, we are off to make our almost daily visit to the hospital to keep Christy, Gracie, Madeline and Nicklaus company. Til next time, God Bless. Bernd

ONLY A FEW MORE WEEKS TO GO

Hi All, It's Tuesday morning, June 17, 30 weeks and 2 days into the pregnancy, and Steve and Christy's 2nd Wedding Anniversary!!! What a glorious day. Yesterday was a good day as far as Christy's health goes. Her blood pressure had gone down into a normal range, after several days of cllimbing a little each day. Her doctors were all pleased with her and the babies progress, and are still predicting birth around week 34. Christy has really "popped" out. Her stomach is big, and as you may be able to imagine, stretched to what seems like the limit. I think I could bounce a nickle off her stomach, it's so tight. Nicklaus was really moving about yesterday, kicking back whenever anyone pushed on the stomach area he was occupying, and Christy said it seemed like he had been doing summersaults earlier in the day. The girls are both occupying the lower abdomen area, and seem to be a little quieter. We spent our time with Christy as we usually do, playing games, talking with the nurses as they stop by to chat, and having snacks (yesterday it was pizza and frozen yogurt). We will be taking a candlelight dinner (filet mignon) t0 to Christy and Steve tonight so that they can celebrate their anniversary together there at the hospital. If my memory is correct, tomorrow will be another measurement day, and we look forward to hearing how big the babies are now. So that's it, short but good. Take care everyone and keep the prayers coming. When I think about all your answered prayers, I'm reminded of when I was coaching Pop Warner football. We always prayed before each game, and our prayers were always not about victory, but about no-one getting hurt. This particular year I coached a team of 7-8 year olds, and we ended the sesaon without any serious injuries. On our last game, as I ended our pre-game prayer, one of the little guys said "Wow coach, this praying stuff sure works", yes it did, and it still does. Bernie

Update from Christy

Hi all, Christy sent this out as an e-mail last week, so some of you may have already seen tihs, but I thought it was definitely worth sharing with all. I will try to get you an update later today, after we visit with Christy. Bernd

Today is Wednesday and I am 29 weeks and 3 days. This Sunday is
another big day of happiness. It is funny to think that almost 50 days ago
we started this journey in the hospital. Everything, for the most part,
has been good. My body is getting a little closer to being done. (so
is my mind) Over the weekend my blood pressure is slightly rising and
I am getting a few headaches. These are signs of preclampsia which
would push us into a delivery. I guess my prayer is that I do not stress
myself out and make things worse than they really are. I am still
having ultrasounds everyday to check heartbeats and the babies are
wonderful.
When I get e-mails and phone calls a lot of you have asked about Steve.
Seeing as it is Fathers Day this weekend I thought I would share some
of the neat things and interesting things that have happened with him
in this process. First of all Steve has been great in the support
department. He is here almost everyday and brings food, newspapers (I like
the sport section), any drinks I might want, my mail, and plays games
to pass the time. I will say I still have not succeeded in beating him
in Connect Four. He also has had some surprises . If you know Steve
those are not his favorite but he did enjoy these. One of the classes
Steve teaches at night threw him a surprise baby shower on the last
night of class, and yesterday some of his co-workers did the same thing.
I am so glad that people have made him feel special. Steve also had to
try and "one up" me by spending a night in the emergency room. About
a month ago he went to a CSUF baseball game with my boss Bill and was
sitting behind first base and a line drive came right to him and hit him
in the jaw. Being a man he said he was fine until he realized that he
could not hear out of his right ear. Bill and Steve headed over to
St. Jude emergency and he was checked out, cat-scan and all. Thank
goodness he was okay and was sent home around midnight. I guess you can
imagine how I was doing and what I was thinking. How many people can say
that both spouses were in two different hospitals at the same time.
The best part about this pregnancy for me is seeing my husband grow in
the Lord. Steve has been so touched by the overwhelming prayer and
support from all over the world, literally. One class of students even
asked my name so that they could pray for me by name. Another student said
her husband was in Guatemala and could she send the request there.
Co-workers have lent helpful advice and of course our families are
constantly there for us. My husband has grabbed my hands and just started
praying when things are getting rough. If there was one thing that these
babies of ours have done for both Steve and I it is improve our
relationship with the Lord. I knew they were going to be special and I was
right.
As the weekend quickly approaches and we celebrate our Fathers I want
to give a quick shout out to mine. My Dad has also made my life in this
hospital a lot easier. He and my Mom are here almost everyday
bringing food and playing games. My Dad has even let me win a few games of
Phase 10. (what a giver) Remember to call your Dad this weekend and
tell him how special he is. Thank you again for all your prayers. Christy

THE BABIES ARE GROWING

Hi All, I was hoping for some new baby pictures today, but the latest ultrasounds were mainly of body parts the doctor was interested in, and were not interesting to look at, so no new pictures. Christy's doctors are happy, no elated, with the babies progress. Achieving 28 weeks is a major milestone as far as the health of premature babies go. I think that every one of her doctors has predicted that she will carry the babies past the 34th week, which would be absolutely fabulous. All of you around the world who are in the daily prayer chain must certainly realize that God has answered all of your and our prayers. Thank you for all your prayers, and please keep the prayers coming. Sharon and I and Steve are spending many hours playing card and dice games with Christy. Yesterday 4 nurses joined us for some real championship Skippo card games. The only problem with that is I keep losing and Chrsity does a lot of the winning. I have found out that several of her nurses are very competitive which makes the games lots of fun. Below is a short little note Christy wrote this morning. She did send it to a few people, and here it is for everyone to read. God Bless. Bernd

I know it has been a few weeks since you have had an update, I was waiting to give a growth scan report. Today I had an ultrasound that measures the babies heads, abdomens, and legs. They put all the information into the computer and come up with an estimated weight.Madeline has taken the lead. She is weighing in at 2 pounds and 10 ounces. Nicklaus is right behind her at 2 pounds and 9 ounces. My little Gracie is a little smaller with a weight of 2 pounds and 3 ounces. It is amazing how much I feel I know my babies. They have already developed personalities. Madeline is down at the bottom and will most likely be born first. She has been very stable and I think she will have the personality of a first born child. I also think she and Steve will have a really close relationship. Nicklaus is hanging out at the top of my uterus. He seems to almost be quietly staying away from his sisters and behaving. I think he will be very kind and gentle spirited. I hope that he and I have a close relationship like Steve shares with his Mom. Then there is Gracie. She is the mover. Her position changes almost everyday. I tell everyone that she will be the child who gets the leash to keep her close to us. I also think she is going to carry the Kammer trait of being strong willed. Am I a little scared about that, just a little.I would like to say thank you again to all of you who pray for us daily. We know that we are still here because of Gods grace. We are WOWING the doctors. Speaking of, they have predicted that I will go to at least 32 weeks and possibly 34 or 35. I cannot imagine my tummy getting bigger but it would have to to carry all the weight. I also would like to say thank you to all the visitors and e-mails and letters we receive. It really keeps me connected to the outside and I feel like I know a little about what is going on in your lives as you do mine.I guess that is all for today, my next growth scan will be in about three weeks but I will send an update possibly next week. Again, thank you from Steve and I. God bless to everyone!

WOW, 27 WEEKS AND COUNTING

It wasn't that long ago when we were all sweating out Christy getting to week 24. Today she completed week 27, prayers answered. Thanks to all of you around the world who are praying for her, the babies and Steve. Every day, every week, means better health and less issues for both mom and the babies. Saturday, the 24th was spent celebrating Steve's birthday in the hospital, where he seems to be spending almost all of his non-working hours. Several family members were there to help Steve celebrate, making the room a little crowded. I'm sure Steve will not celebrate another birthday like that.
The attached photo is of Christy and Breanna taken during Steve's birthday celebration in Christy's hospital room. While the photo doesn't really show the size of Christy's stomach, you can be sure that it is getting BIG. We are all looking forward to Christy being able to carry the babies for several more weeks, hopefully, with your prayers, all the way to week 32. Christy and Steve are doing well. The babies are moving around a bit, and are most likely around 2 pounds each now. Well, that's all for today. Send Christy an e-mail or give her a call on her cell phone when you get a chance.
